Sounds simple but it is more in-depth than that. SISU in Finnish means "guts" or fortitude. For generations, the Finns have taken on the world when they had no other option. My grandfather shortened our last name in 1941 from Kallioinen to Kalen to make it easier to pronounce. Both my parents spoke Finnish when they were children and did not learn English until they went to school. For those familiar with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the town of Toivola was named by my Great Grandmother it means "hope" in Finnish.
My Dad was a MARINE in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. Dad was one of the very few Scout-Snipers that returned home.
He was tasked with gathering intelligence on the enemy and making use of that information.
I work in much the same way; gathering information and working with companies that want to grow, expand horizons and prosper.
The businesses that embrace change and improve their quality while reducing costs have the best opportunities to become a world-class supplier. It still amazes me the number of businesses that could be world-class, but are not for one reason or another.
Either self-employed or an employee in sales for the more than thirty-five years, with products as diverse as insurance, pick and place equipment, soldering irons and emissions measurement equipment, my focus has always been my customer and their unique needs.
On many occasions colleagues and customers alike insisted that something was impossible. With a team effort, we were able to prove them wrong. I love seeing things come together to meet the need in the end and share the joy of the accomplishment.
